What is Thick?

"Thick" is not Brittish slang for fat girl! By definition it refers to that which is relatively great in depth, having a great number of, or our favorite, having a heavy consistency. Thick means many things and to us, it embodies fully who we are as artist, writers, and humans. So while we know what you're thinking when you see the word THICK in bold, we love it! We are thick....the ThickArt Collaborative: artist, writers, humanitarians.

The Art with Joe Series at Peace and a Cup of Joe (B-more), in conjuction with the ThickArt Collaborative and Arts for Global Development is seeking submissions for the second annual "Red ...artist lifting one voice in one common thread" exhibition dedicated to World AIDS Day. This year's theme is about self-expression. Artists are permitted to submit any 2D work that embodies how they feel about the subject and also includes the color red. No nude or risque images shall be accepted. Artists will be limited to works no larger than 30 x 30 in size. Works can be in any media and must be ready to hang. Exhibition dates are scheduled for December 1, 2008-Juanuary 31, 2009. An opening reception is scheduled for December 6, 2008. Installation will take place on November 29, 2008. DC Local artists who cannot drop off work on 11/29 in Baltimore may drop off at the TAC studio on the morning of November 22, 2008 (details to follow).

There is a $25 hanging fee per person. In support of our friends at Arts for Global Development, we will be displaying the TreasurePostcards series. This is a charitable exhibition; therefore, there is a 50/50 commission structure with a large portion of the proceeds being donated to Friends of Orphans based in the Pader district of Uganda aimed at supporting those impacted by the plague of HIV/AIDS and the ongoing conflict in Northern Uganda. Expressions of interest should be submitted to artwithjoe@thickart.com no later than November 19, 2008. Images in .jpg format reflecting the work intended for display should be submitted with the submission. Acceptance to this exhibition will be granted on a rolling basis until the closing date.
